The Twin Cities Healing Justice Program disrupts the cradle-to-prison pipeline through anti-racist youth organizing, restorative practices, coalition building and thought leadership.
We build the capacity of youth, educators and community members as they have intentional conversations about the lasting effects of race, racism and institutions, Youth in our program are then charged with effecting systemic change in their respective communities.
Our program is called SAFE—Students Accelerating Fiercely Everyday. We are currently working with the Minneapolis Public Schools at North Community High School as a partner doing restorative justice work. We are creating alternatives to punitive measures for students dealing with behavioral issues. We provide support that retains students rather than suspending or expelling them.
We host monthly gatherings and seasonal events such as youth intensives in the summer and winter. We organize social justice educational opportunities that help youth build their analysis of systemic racism while we build our program base.
These events connect us with youth and introduce them to direct organizing opportunities. The SAFE Youth Board, a group of 12 young people, meets monthly to decide the direction of SAFE work and assist in facilitating trainings.
