As the Director of Quaker Engagement, Brian's work concentrates on leading AFSC’s efforts to build nurturing, trusting, and engaged relationships with Quaker faith communities, schools, and organizations in the U.S. and around the world. He is also a resource for AFSC staff to learn more about Quaker history, beliefs, culture, and practices.

Brian is a Quaker educator and community builder whose lifelong career has focused on religion, social justice, and peacemaking. He is a member of Gainesville Monthly Meeting, a part of Southeastern Yearly Meeting (SEYM), but his connections with Friends stretch across many different regions of the United States and around the world.

Before coming to AFSC, Brian was the Religious Studies Department Chair and Quaker Worship and Spiritual Life Coordinator at Westtown School in West Chester, PA. He holds a Ph.D. in Religious Studies from Temple University, with extensive academic research and published writings examining the role that Quakers played in gay rights movements and the inclusion of gay and lesbian people in the Quaker tradition during the mid-twentieth century.
