Offer paths to citizenship
People who immigrate and want to remain in their host countries should have the opportunity to apply for legal status and become citizens. Legal status allows immigrants to work without being subjected to exploitation because of lack of status. It also offers freedom of movement that is not available to people without documentation to travel. When all people in a community have access to status, the community is stronger.
In the U.S., Congress should update our immigration laws to allow all people to submit applications for permanent residence.
