Under the lead of the American Friends Service Committee’s Horn of Africa Regional Advocacy and Policy Program (Salama Hub) based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, different studies on policymaking and policy influencing were conducted in the Horn of Africa region. These came under a three-year Joint Project (2021 – 2023) with the All Africa Conference of Churches, AACC, (AACC-CETA | AACC-CETA : All Africa Conference of Churches), and a European partner. The project was titled “Transforming Lives in East and Horn of Africa Region Through Evidence-Based Advocacy and Campaigning for Peaceful Change” and showcased the varied experiences of women and youth in peace processes. It covered 8 countries in the Horn of Africa which are: Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia, Uganda, Kenya, Sudan, & South Sudan. This was an opportunity for CSOs and FBOs to contribute significantly by equipping African civil society and faith-based organizations in the HoA region with research evidence to influence policy development, thereby contributing to peace and stability. These findings form a basis for formulating necessary policy shifts towards comprehensive, more inclusive, and gender-responsive peace processes. The different studies undertaken in this phase of the project are as listed here below.
· Inclusion of women in peacebuilding processes (negotiation and mediation): Women’s Peace and Security Agenda.
· Youth inclusion in negotiation, mediation, and other peacebuilding processes in East and Horn of Africa.
· Status of peace and security in the East and Horn of Africa.
· Situation analysis on the root causes of current internal armed conflict in the Sudan.
