Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (November 15, 2022) – A consortium of independent, international peacebuilding organizations are bringing people together from different sectors of African society to reshape policy and research on some of the region’s most pressing concerns. The Salama Hub will convene civil society leaders, regional economic communities, think tanks, academics, private sector, and religious organizations from across the Horn of Africa to identify regional needs and priorities. The Salama Hub will share expertise with national and international policymakers around the world, including the African Union, The Intergovernmental Authority on Development, and the United Nations.
The Salama Hub is an effort to reclaim research space dominated by Western scholars and produce original research conducted on the African continent by local researchers on prominent current issues. This research can influence perspectives and practice around peacebuilding, migration, and development in Africa. During the launch, there will be the unveiling of a report produced by the hub titled The Horn of Africa: How Civil Society Can Help Build a More Stable, Peaceful Future. Based on a review of existing literature about conflict in the Horn of Africa, the report offers insights into how civil society organizations, policymakers, and others can improve conditions in the region.
